3.) Liatris Spicata- Dense Blazing Star

Height: 3-4' Spacing: 8-16 Sun - Heirloom. Showy flowers attract birds, vbutterflies. Tolerates clay soil. Best Massed.

I planted these with the milkweed as well since that section is going to be all about attracting those native butterflies.

Went here 5.20.23  This event was WAAAYYY bigger than I anticipated! Super excited. I was not ready to buy harldy any native plants but, I know where to go for next year. Next year, I will not buy from Lowes because they had Heirloom vegetable plants. So many native Indiana species. They had much more than native Indiana but, their selection of natives was huge!

What I purchased

1.) Asarum Splendens - Wild Ginger Perennial

Height: 5-9" Spacing 8-12" Sun/shade - Groundcover - Blooms hide under leaves. Not picky about soil but spreads faster in rich soil with high humus content. Low maintenance..

I planted this under the first Maple tree in the backyard. I would love for this to take over and not have any more honeysuckle popping up in these areas.

2.) Helianthus Mollis - Downy Sunflower Perennial

Height: 406" Sp: 24" Sun - Firm stems serve as perches for songbirds. Goldfinches love seeds. Creeps slowly by rhizomes to form clumps. Prefers dry, sandy conditions but does well in any well-drained soil.

I planted these with the milkweed plants that I grew from seed. The 6 that made it are still out there even though they look puny.
