Food for the humans
Yes - Yes - I know - This is NOT native to Indiana, but we have to balance goals here. 🤓
2.20.23 - Started some garden items from seed. The thing that took the easiest was the Jalapenos. I only wanted 1, maybe 2 of them, and I have been giving them away. Not everything in this picture worked.
3.16.23
Repotted the winners and got some lights on them. So much for not spending any money on this endevor.
Still growing!
3.29.23
Had to add more lights and room for the plants that made it.
Growing:
Beef steak tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes
Jalapenos
Carnival peppers
Milkweed
(from Bugfest)
Marigold
Took them out for the first time on a beautiful day

I was gifted some strawberry plants from another person's garden. We will see if they survive. I have given them the best chance that I can. This wheelbarrow has been a cute planter for the past couple of years.
Mistakes have been made and losses have occurred. Things I have learned. When hardening your plants, you should do ONLY an hour to start and put them in the shade. Watering them well before you bring them out also helps them. I don't have shade It was suggested to use a shade screen, but my plan is to take them out later in the evening. Worst case scenario, I will have to buy stong plants after May 8th.

I have enjoyed this podcast. It is great to listen to in the car. If you have a long drive ahead of you, I highly suggest it.
We have the containers ready to go. I got these barrels from my dad. They used to hold windshield washer fluid. My husband cut them in half for me . There are holes at the bottom of each container for drainage. I did plant the broccoli and onions on April 29th because those are cold-weather vegetables, and they will benefit from the extra growing time. My broccoli from seed did not make it. I found some nice-looking plants at the nearby TSC.
I used the cardboard that I had been saving up all winter to keep the weeds down between my containers here. We will see how well this holds up over the summer.
6.18.23 - I keep finding/being gifted new plants. Found garlic and chives at my mom's house and brought it home. Got some banana peppers at a farmer's market.
