The small ecosystem here

When we first started living at this house in 2019, the lawn was a proper "King's lawn."

There was not a weed in sight, the previous owner was a fairly heavy user of the lawn care company's chemicals. There were no birds, squirrels, rabbits... nothing landing or hanging out on our lawn. We stopped all the lawn care and just let it be from when we arrived.

2021 - was the first year we started to notice birds landing on the lawn.

Working on the Honeysuckle out back, I heard a woodpecker!

It is either a downy or a pileated woodpecker. Maybe you can tell me.

I  know that we are keeping this dead willow now that I know we have such an amazing animal using it for their buffet.

The video is not great, but you can hear the bird pecking and the call.

We have come a long way from the days when we had absolutly no wildlife. This momma bird made her home here and I can't bear to change her address. She dive bombs me everytime I come close to her area but I need to work on the native plant section so... we deal with each other.

Look! A bunny! I have not seen any bunnies on the front part of the property until recently. Here he is on the driveway.

7.5.24 - We have a groundhog!

Some would say "oh no"!!

We are so happy to see him.  To us, it means we are doing something right.
